I’m 40-something. Married, with a middle school son and an elementary-aged daughter.
We’re foodies and science nerds and writers. I taught myself to budget and meal plan when husband was in grad school, I carried that through several fellowships. I taught myself to cook things I wished I could afford in restaurants, and then I taught myself things I couldn’t buy in restaurants.
We’ve been CSA (community supported agriculture) members for about 10 years now, learning about new vegetables my mother never served, eating with the seasons because I’m too Calvinist to pay for more vegetables when I’m getting a ridiculous box of fresh produce every week from June to October. We also have increasingly bought our meat and eggs from local farmers over the past few years.
